After 16 years in community theatre and broadcasting, I was successfully cleansed of old radio habits through intensive training by 7-time Emmy winner Michael J Baker, Jr of New York. The Northwest Florida Regional Airport VPS has been using my voice on its terminal announcements since 1996. In metropolitan Washington, DC, Peak Neurofitness LLC reported rave reviews from customers after I voiced a new voicemail system for them in early 2014. In my personal studio, I have a MacBook Pro upgraded with Solid State Drive, using Audacity, connected through an Avid Fast Track C400 preamp interface to an Audio Technica AT4033 studio condenser microphone. I monitor quality with Sony MDR-V6 studio headphones. My other microphones include an AT2020 condenser and four dynamics: a Heil PR 40, Shure SM58 & SM5, and a genuine Shure Unidyne 55S, which was already at least ten years old when I acquired it in 1978. Even in its near-mint condition it is seldom the best tool for a VO job, although its great for on-stage vocalists, and absolutely ideal for photographs.
